Teenager Life Skills, Motivation and Self Discovery

arizona_health_insurance_4Health Care Reform laws have affected every citizen of Arizona in different ways, as they try to learn how their Arizona health insurance options have changed.  Teenagers and young adults, for example, now have the flexibility to remain on their parents’ group health plans until the age of 26.  But not every young adult in Arizona is eligible to participate in this program because so many parents of 19-26 year olds do not have a group health insurance plan.

If you are a college student, young adult, or the parent of a 19-26 year-old who is uninsured, then it makes sense to learn about all of your options.  Keep in mind that not every Arizona health insurance plan is designed for this age group, but there are some affordable ways to remain insured.

College health plans – Some colleges and universities, such as the University of Arizona, have a college health system that provides affordable coverage a student’s for routine healthcare needs.  Each university is different, but it may be worth checking into one of these Arizona health insurance plans.

Arizona CHIP programs – Unless you are already covered by one of these plans, you will not be able to enroll in CHIP unless the state is able to restore funding to the program.  CHIP eligibility is based on income and family size, but funds have been frozen since January 2010.  The only option right now is to be added to a waiting list.

Arizona health insurance for students – Most of the insurance providers in the state offer some form of affordable health insurance for students, which include basic preventive care, hospitalization an doctor’s visits.  For families not already covered by a group health plan, these plans may be an affordable option.

Temporary Arizona health insurance – For teenagers entering college in the fall, or starting a new job in the near future, a temporary health plan is a great way to maintain coverage at a low monthly premium.  These plans may be renewed monthly for up to six months, and while they usually have a high deductible, they provide coverage for catastrophic illnesses.
